Matt owns all of the lists on Matronics. The mailing lists run on his server, and he supports the lists as part of his love of aviation.
If for some reason the name "TeamGrumman" has a bad connotation, I see no reason why we could not ask for a different name. I was just asking why not take advantage of an existing service that may meet our needs versus duplicating the effort by doing it ourselves? Sometimes outsourcing makes sense.

Please define "control of any emails sent". I'm not sure what you mean.
Thanks,

I don't think the TeamGrumman name is a bad idea or has bad connotations. It is that it already is "owned". That email list existed before Matt took it under his wing at Matronics. And it was done by a good guy who got ousted from the GG. I think the AYA wants to insure that cannot ever happen again with our forum. It's not that I don't trust Matt or anyone with TeamGrumman. I do believe me. I love what they are doing for our airplanes in CA. I only wish I lived closer. If we were to use Matronics we wouldn't have the AYA logo but the Matronics logo. I think that might ruffle a few feathers. _________________ Steve Roberts

Well, we could have [AYA] or [Grumman-AYA] or something in the Subject line if that really matters.
From my perspective as an end user, I'd just like to see something that is uncensored, free, and open to anyone, and can offer both a web and email interface.

If you look at the Team Grumman Forum it has one serious drawback. All the emails coming over from the email list is being presented in one long listing. If someone just changes the topic line slightly it generates a new topic. Trying to follow a topic in logical date order can be very confusing.
My suggestion would be to work with the GG to create a similar working. GG mails would drop into the AYA forum and be sorted by topic into single threads within sections. That sorting, if it can’t be done automatically, could be managed by moderators for each section. Mark has fairly strict control of the content that appears on the GG and ensures it stays Grumman related so I see now reason there for the AYA to be concerned about content. By having specific sections on the AYA forum would ensure downloads to the GG would also stay Grumman related, which may satisfy Mark. No doubt a way could be found to restrict posting in certain sections of the forum not downloading to the GG, such as this “Non Aviation stuff ” section.
Considering the comments on whether people prefer the GG or AYA type forum it looks like most traffic would, at least initially, be inbound to the Forum from the GG.
A lot to think about I know, but worth considering |
